12/23/2002: "Salon expands on interstitial model"

In a move to boost flagging ad revenues, socio-political commentary zine Salon.com has presented its unsubscribed users with the ability to trade a few seconds of their time for access to premium content previously granted only to paid subscribers. This initial experiment involves users viewing an interactive Mercedes ad spenning four pages in exchange for a day's premium access.
